Now that you've arrived in DeFi Kingdoms, there's a lot do!
It can be overwhelming at first, so let me show you around a bit. I don't know how much experience you have with cryptocurrencies, decentralized exchanges, or NFTs. For the purposes of this tour, I'm going to keep things short and sweet.
First, I'm going to give you some pointers about the interface.
The main view in DeFi Kingdoms is the World Map.
You can zoom in and out with your mouse wheel or pinch zoom on a mobile device. Navigate by holding the left mouse button and dragging or panning with your finger on a mobile device. Visit any specific location with a click or tap.
Additionally, the menu in the top right corner allows you to navigate between locations directly without returning to the World Map, provides links to the DeFi Kingdoms Discord server, social media, links to the documentation, and to this tutorial.
In the top left, your character avatar is displayed along with the JEWEL balance in your Metamask wallet and your locked rewards balance. Clicking on this avatar opens a menu with a ton of useful information such as pending reward totals, real-time JEWEL pricing, and market cap.
You can also click on the inventory button below to view your inventory of in-game items.
Welcome to the Marketplace, adventurer!
This is the heart of the bustling DeFi Kingdoms economy. Here, new players should speak to the Trader, Merchant Matoya. She will help you trade your ONE tokens for JEWEL, the currency of DeFi Kingdoms.
Whether you’re here to grow your JEWEL balance through investment or to use your JEWEL to acquire Heroes and take on all of the challenges of DeFi Kingdoms, you’ll need to talk to Matoya to get started.
Matoya doesn’t just trade ONE and JEWEL, though. She functions as the face of our decentralized exchange, allowing players to swap tokens on the Harmony blockchain with extremely low fees and transaction times of only a few seconds.
Exchanging tokens is a key part of some in-game activities, so you may visit Matoya quite often.
You may have noticed Druid Lazarus, who’s also here in the Marketplace. Lazarus helps you pair tokens and invest in Liquidity Pools, which are a key part of DeFi Kingdoms. In order to get started, you can speak to Druid Lazarus to buy Seeds. You buy Seeds by investing an equal value of JEWEL and another token. As you already know, you can trade for those tokens with Matoya. Once you own seeds, you can head to the Gardens to have them planted.
Liquidity Pooling can be a powerful tool to generate more JEWEL. I’ll explain more about this process in the Gardens, so when you’re ready, let’s head there.
We’ve now arrived at the Jeweler! If you’re thinking about holding onto your JEWEL for a while, and if you’d like to earn rewards while doing so, this is the right place to be. You can speak to Jeweler Ian to deposit JEWEL into his vault.
While your JEWEL is deposited, a portion of the fees from the decentralized exchange and a portion of fees from in-game JEWEL transactions are shared with you. These rewards are shared based on your share of all deposits with the Jeweler, so the more JEWEL you have in his vaults, the more rewards you will accrue.
Unlike in the Gardens, these rewards are unlocked instantly. You can, of course, also withdraw your funds from the Jeweler at any time and there is no withdrawal fee.
This oasis of agrarian tranquility is the Gardens. Henry the Horticulturist oversees everything in this area, including the hopping bun-buns.
You’ll want to take a look at the Seed Box, which shows a list of the active Liquidity Pools (Gardens) in DeFi Kingdoms. You can see how much is invested in each pool, each pool’s emissions, and the expected return (using a very simplified formula) from this screen. This is where you can decide which Liquidity Pools you are interested in joining.
If you’ve already purchased Seeds from Druid Lazarus in the Marketplace, you can deposit them in the Seed Box here. Henry will plant them immediately, and you’ll earn rewards over time as new JEWELs work their way up from the depths.
The Horticulturist will lovingly tend your plants until all of your rewards are released. You can check the Harvest area to view and claim your rewards. When buying Seeds and planting in the Gardens, remember that withdrawal fees apply and that a portion of rewards are time-locked. Planting in the Gardens is a powerful tool in DeFi Kingdoms, so I suggest spending some time to learn about Liquidity Pools and the time-locked rewards system if you aren’t already familiar.
Time to kick back and relax at the DeFi Kingdoms destination for drinking, the Tavern. Taverns are always a popular place for travelling heroes to congregate, and this one is no exception.
Many activities in DeFi Kingdoms require a Hero to complete: all professions and questlines are completed using Heroes. DeFi Kingdoms Heroes are unique NFT assets with their own classes, stat blocks, levels, and pixel art.
Here in the Tavern, Barkeep Kessing will allow you to view any Hero’s card or send a Hero to another player, while Selena, the Agent, can give you a list of Heroes for purchase. Once you have Heroes of your own, you can come back here and offer them for hire or for sale as you progress further in the game.
Ain’t this a geographical oddity? Over there is the entrance to the mine, situated right next to a suitable garden plot, a fishing pond, and a forest area for foraging! Once you have a Hero, this is the place to visit to take advantage of his or her skills.
Each of the available professions — mining, fishing, gardening, and foraging — generates rewards for you when you put your Heroes to work. The NPCs here specialize in quests for novices in their respective professions, so once you have a Hero you should bring them here to start gaining Experience and resources. Each quest has a Stamina cost.
Also, let's take a quick detour over to the Castle.
Here you can see a roster of all the lands. If you are in need of land, you can buy what's for sale here. If you have a land, you can choose to sell it. There will be many more features here in the future.
Please remain quiet and respectful in this sacred grove. We’re now approaching the Portal, where Heroes are summoned into the Kingdom.
In order to summon a Hero, the Archdruid Agranam performs a ritual along with two Heroes, infusing a crystal with energy channeled from the Heroes. After this ritual, the Summoner, Lisa, places the crystal in the portal. The crystal is consumed, and a new Hero enters the realm!
This new Hero will inherit some of the attributes of the Heroes who gave their energy to infuse the summoning crystal. No two Heroes will be exactly alike, and a key part of being successful in DeFi Kingdoms is successfully summoning powerful Heroes. The considerations around summoning are many and varied.
Now I’ve shown you all that there is to see in DeFi Kingdoms. I have enjoyed guiding you, and I expect to see you do great things!
I encourage you to come back to this tutorial or to the official DeFi Kingdoms documents or the associated FAQ pages at any time to review this information.
Also, we have a thriving Discord community where the Dev Team, Knights, B.A.R.D.S., and fellow players can answer questions, offer advice, and enjoy the experience of DeFi Kingdoms together. I hope you’ll join us on Discord and our communities on any other social media that you use. Once more, welcome to the community! Nolan out!
